To Members of the Students’ Association A full year has passed since the Kei Heep Past Students’ Association Held its inaugural meeting in November, 1966.And, it must be satisfying to the Executive, the Council, and all members that this first year has been such a successful one. To have a successful organization, it is essential to have a dedicated and enthusiastic leadership. The membership is fortunate to have chosen such able people to lead them in the first year of the Association’s existence. I must offer my special congratulations to the Executive and Council members who have given so much time and effort to organizing many worthwhile activities for the membership. At your Annual Meeting, you will be presented with the draft Constitution for the Kei Heep Past Students’ Association. Here again, I am sure the membership will appreciate that the Executive and Council have put much work into the preparation of this document. Every point has been considered carefully with the best interests of the Association in mind. Some question has been raised about the fact that only graduates are qualified to be members. This is one of the few regulations on which the Kei Heep School has insisted. I do not want to go into detail, but I can assure you that this regulations is beneficial both to the Association and to Kei Heep School. Some members have asked whether or not the Associations is directly related to the school. The answer is , yes it is. The Association was intended to be one part of the total structure of school life, not something separate from the school. This is one reason for the appointment of staff advisors. On the one hand, they can keep the school informed on your activities, and at the same time they can keep the Association informed on present school policies and activities. Because the Association bears the name “Kei Heep Past Students’ Association”, then all of its activities should be those which are acceptable to the school authorities and to the Church which operate the school. Our school has certain aims, and as a Christian institution we have certain ideals of conduct. It is expected that the Association will always keep their activities in line with these. The school does not wish to interfere with the Association’s activities. We do want the chance to co-operate and work with the Association. We do want the Association to operate on high standards. I hope all members understand this relationship. School life in the present session is progressing well. As you will know, the highlight of the fall term was Graduation. At the Graduation Service, one hundred and seventy-nine students received Graduation Certificates, ninety-one in Commercial, sixty in Industrial Arts, and twenty-eight in Domestic Science. I am pleased to report that many of these latest graduates are already employed and doing responsible work. With this latest class of graduates, Kei Heep Secondary Modern School has a total of almost five hundred graduates now representing the school out in the community. This also means that the potential membership of your Association is already very large. The most interesting news this year is the announcement that The Church of Christ in China, Hong Kong Council, will soon build a “sister” school to Keep Heep in Wang Tau Hom. This school will also offer three-year courses of combined academic and practical training. However, it will have a number of new practical courses, including Electricity, Sheet Metal, and Printing. Between the two schools, there will be almost 2000 places available to boys and girls in the area. We at Kei Heep are all looking forward to the development of this new school. May I close by extending my best wishes to you all, Sincerely, RAY. L. SADLER, Principal. |
